Established in 1903, the Paxton Carnegie Library remains one of Paxton's finest landmarks.  During the library's long history, its unique architectural design features have been carefully preserved.

Construction began with a grant of $10,000 from Andrew Carnegie.  The architect was Paul O. Moratz of Bloomington, Illinois.  Harry and George Turner laid the cornerstone in October, 1903.  One hundred years later, the cornerstone was removed for the anniversary celebration by Harry's grandson, Alan Turner of Paxton.

Inside the library, the ambiance of 1903 has been restored, with many of the original furnishings and the oak circulation desk still in use.  While every effort has been made to maintain the building and honor our heritage, we have also kept up with the needs of today's library patrons, providing efficient service along with the latest in computer technology.
